About the Audi A5/S5
As you know the Audi A5 is a luxury coupe which is aimed to compete against two other similar German cars, the BMW 3-Series coupe and the Mercedes-Benz CLK-Class. The Audi A5 is the first Audi coupe in 12 years; the previous coupe from Audi disappeared from the market in 1996 when the Audi 80 Coupe went out of production in 1996. Audi A5 is actually the coupe version of the coming 3rd generation Audi A4 and it's believed that the reason Audi have decided to release the coupe version before the sedan and estate model is to take advantage of the lack of competitors for the S5.
Either way the A5/S5 are built on Audi's new MLP platform which stands for Modular Longitudinal Platform which will be used for the next generation A4, A6 and A8 models. One notable change with the MLP platform is the switch from engine mounting over the front axle in favour of mounting it behind the front axle to achieve a more even weight distribution. This change have so far been very welcomed by the many auto journalists that have tested the new Audi A5, many testers praise it for it's very nice handling and credits the new weight distribution for the positive change.
