I absolutely love this song.....one of those songs that you can just close your eyes to and it probably has more meaning than the video. Very few songs make you feel this way, but this is one of those rare songs that just takes your mind in many directions. I'm not a big fan of the video as it does not seem to fit the song....doesn't seem to do the song justice, imo. Peace Rich

good job A Ghost of a Shadow! exactly right. The video matches the song beautifully. It shows traditional ideas in a contemporary way. Like marriage and commitment in a modern world. The song uses imagery like him holding on a rope but he can't make a sound. It's as if he's in a hangmans noose and he's being strangled. The part about the fire going from red to blue suggests she is cutting off the flames air supply. It's a metaphor that she's the one killing the relationship. His love for her is so great it's killing him. In the video you have iconic wedding symbols that represent very serious commitment. The water glasses, garden trees, flowers, and even the mirror symbolize fertility and reproduction. The watch represents a heart. The phone represent communication that needs to take place but at a distance and the pen and quills are the vehicle by which the message will be delivered. The ink is this knowledge that it is over for the relationship because of all the bad stuff she has put him through. Notice he places all the objects on the table to present to her, as if he is presenting his case. As she reads the letter the ink ruins all the symbols of their pottential together. Things in the water glass don't become clear anymore and it's like poison. the flowers are dieing and won't be fertile anymore. Blackness on a mirror represents karma being thrown back at you. The light bulb is like the idea of their lives together and committing to each other. He has presented his heart to her symbolized by the watch. He either unscrews the receiver on the phone because he has nothing more to say or he wipes it off suggesting he is done with it and is also done with their relationship. The candles' flames go out like the flame of their love together. However, everything else starts burning in flames like their relationship going up in smoke. And don't think that this is just her doing this to him. you can reverse it with the guy destroying the relationship. This story can cut both ways.
