What you are about to see is the nominees for the 2008 Billabong XXL Global Big Wave Awards which is an annual contest held since 2001. This award is the Oscars of big wave surfing and it awards the biggest and heaviest waves ridden and documented over the past twelve months.
Now the 2008 contest is allready over and it was the Hawaiian Shane Dorian who won the Ride of The Year award. This winning ride was performed on November 1st, 2007 at Teachupo, Tahiti.
Well we sends our gratulations and can only say check out these fantastic rides, I can't believe that anyone can surf these monster waves and survive it.
Billabong have a website for the competition where you can watch photos and videos from the contenst.

Wow, that is freakin incredible, I have never seen waves as big as that. It's a mirracle they manage to surf thoose things, I have a hard time even standing on a surf board.
