Compressed air engine car Video

A car running on nothing but compressed air sounds rather futuristic but if you think about it compressed air have been used to power various tools for decades.

The MDI Air car uses compressed air stored in a carbon-fiber tank at 4500 psi. The engine itself work pretty much like a normal engine but instead of small explosions of fuel compressed air is injected in the engine to make the pistons move. Now the compressed air is not actually the source of energy for the car as it's merely a way of transferring the energy as with hydrogen and electricity powered cars. However as with the electric engine the car could be recharged at home by solar or wind power and therefore leave no greenhouse emissions whatsoever.

I personally think the electric car have some advantages over the air powered car but the air powered car don't have to bother with batteries being heavy and being worn out. But the air powered car have more moving parts and is louder then the electric powered car.

Whatever solution is the future it's interesting to know how the compressed air engine work.
