These landings look pretty oncontrolled, but people say that it's called extreme cross wind landings. This video shows both how great pilots can be, but also why some people are affraid of flying.

The thing about planes is that even thought you are heading N, your plane may actually be going extreme East-NE. Crosswinds suck. you may also notice a few of the planes tipped their wings into the wind so the wind doesn't try to flip over the plane.
It's really cool in some ways but weird since you just have to counteract the winds as they did.
check out the european airplane races and you can see some EXTREME cases of hard landings when it gets windy with those little planes.
